EXHIBITING ARTISTS

Aubrey Walden Blair Bailey Claire Kirkley

Corrina Leverett  Mars Simpson  Sam Pach

AUBREY WALDEN

Aubrey Walden is a studio artist in Fort Mill, South Carolina, pursuing her Bachelor’s in painting and minor in photography at Winthrop. Her oil painting practice seeks to understand old painting techniques, calling upon traditional processes to research contemporary ideas. Her work primarily focuses on the concept of death and the impression it leaves behind. In her paintings, she explores the intersection between death and consciousness, especially as it pertains to how fear of death, both human and animal, drives us in life. She also produces a high volume of wildlife photography, achieved by being armed with a camera and shooting whenever possible. She has exhibited her work in the Mint Museum once, and multiple times at the York County Arts Council and Winthrop Galleries.

CLAIRE KIRKLEY

Claire Kirkley is a sculpture and ceramicist from Sumter, SC. She is currently studying for her dual concentration BFA from Winthrop University. The tone of her work suggests something out of reach in your mind, but so close to being remembered. Through her process oriented work, she explores the way repetition can translate into how time and repetitive acts transform materials into familiar but distant ideas that cannot be explained. She works with ceramics, wood, metal, paint, and fiber. Her work has been exhibited in Winthrop's galleries six times and has helped make a public art piece for Winthrop, which was published in their magazine.

MARS SIMPSON

Mars Simpson is an interdisciplinary artist who focuses upon sculpture, painting, and drawing. His highly experimental and tentative process examines the polarity of life and the vastness of creativity. Each work seeks to embody the complexities of the states in the human mind, as well as iats capacity to channel the outer and inner workings of life. He creates moments and conversations in each piece, connecting them through their differences, peculiarities, and enigmatic nature. Mars is a senior at Winthrop University in the Department of Fine Arts. He is the curator and founder of the artist guild known as "Local Skeptics" and is the host to many community based creative events. He is the Secretary and Co-Founder of the "Rising Artist of Winthrop" - a student born art club dedicated to building portfolios, social connections, and creative experiences within the student body. He has shown work in the Winthrop galleries, as well as local galleries such as the Arts Council of York County's Center for the Arts and Bakhita Arts Center.

SAM PACH

Samuel is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He recently graduated from Winthrop University with a BF A degree. Pach explores life and space through sculptural and ceramic forms, installations, and digital work. Common threads of investigation throughout Pach's work are the psychology of space, the passage of time, and material memory. He is especially interested in the relationships formed between the gallery, viewer, and large-scale works that invite bodily associations through form or material. Ephemeral materials such as unfired clay, plaster, rotting wood, rusted metals, organic matter, and textiles are commonly exploited for their unique characteristics in his work. Pach has been featured in over 19 exhibitions and won numerous competitive awards for his work, including the Tom Stanley Award and the Christine Perfect Award in sculpture.
