This multi-artist textile exhibition, This Must be the Place, artists Kristy Bishop, Devann Donovan, and Amanda Foshag use the weight of memory and materiality to explore the responsibility that comes with handling the past, both through nostalgia and environmentalism. Through the use of weaving, sculpture, and other tactile forms of 3D art this exhibit comments on not only the remnants of the past, but takes a peek into a more thoughtful, long-lasting path for the future.

EXHIBITION STATEMENT

Home is rarely a single place. It is assembled from objects kept, shows watched, gifts wrapped, and trinkets that couldn't be thrown away. Memory weaves into these things and much like fiber, it stretches and snags, crafting new environments.

This Must Be the Place brings together South Carolina textile artists Kristy Bishop, Devann Donovan, and Amanda Foshag, whose work treats fiber as a time capsule, preserving childhood moments and half-forgotten environments.

Bishop weaves discarded ratchet straps salvaged from the Port of Charleston into intricate forms, setting the slow, deliberate pace of traditional craft against the relentless cycle of mass production and consumption. Her vibrant colors and patterns evoke both comfort and dread within a familiar landscape of consumerism, asking which objects we value, preserve, and leave behind.

If Bishop questions what we keep, Donovan explores how we remember it. She draws on childhood nostalgia, pop culture, and novelty objects to turn personal memories into playful, interactive textile artifacts. Her work blurs the line between remembering and reinventing, questioning how familiar images and ordinary experiences grow exaggerated, romanticized, and distorted over time.

Foshag grounds those memories in place. She gathers fibers and natural materials into tactile records of the landscapes that shaped her childhood. Through intuitive weaving and assemblage, her works become souvenirs of time and place, accumulations of material that hold traces of the past and evoke comfort and belonging.

Together, the artists reimagine ephemeral moments as textile forms, woven from personal anecdotes and defining experiences. The accumulation of memory and material constructs this place.

EXHIBITION STATEMENT

Friday Arts Project's annual "Friends" show, exhibiting current and older work by those in our organizations circle of friends. This year marks Friday Arts Project's 20th year anniversary. In 2008 our first exhibit was held in the Loading Dock Gallery of the Gettys Art Center. It was called Ex Morte Vita, which in Latin means, "Out of Death, Life." Some of the works were inspired by that idea.

Rock Hill Schools proudly presents the Fall Art Show, showcasing work from our talented elementary students. Each banner represents one of our 14 schools and features art created during the first months of the 2026–2027 school year. This exhibit offers a glimpse into our classrooms, where students express their thoughts, culture, and feelings through visual art. Creating art builds problem-solving, decision-making, and fine motor skills, while fostering creativity, exploration, and strong work ethics. Rock Hill Schools is proud to support the growth of our student leaders through the arts.
