HOW ARTFIELDS BEGAN

ArtFields started in Lake City, SC in 2013 with two goals: honor the artists of the Southeast with a week's worth of celebration and revitalize a small Southern town through the power of art. The competition and exhibition offers over $100,000 in cash prizes. The winners of two People's Choice Awards are determined by the votes of people visiting ArtFields while a panel of art professionals selects all the other awards. During ArtFields, what was once one of South Carolina's most prosperous agricultural communities becomes a living art gallery as we recognize, celebrate and share the artistic talent of the Southeast.

In conjunction with the ArtFields event, ArtFields Jr. was founded to recognize and celebrate artistic talent of students. Originally, students in grades 1 - 12 from Lake City could submit their artwork to participate in the event. After a positive reception to the student display each year, ArtFields Jr. expanded in 2016 to include the entire state of South Carolina. Each year, the ArtFields Jr. exhibition inspires thousands of visitors and showcases the amazing talent of students from across the state. A panel of judges selects First, Second, and Third Places, plus 3 Merit Award Winners in each grade category. Students get to vote on their favorite pieces to determine the Student Choice Award for each category.
