ARTS & WELLNESS SERIES

Get moving in the galleries at the Center for the Arts! Join the Arts Council in person or from the comfort of your home for a variety of classes including Gyrotonic® Mat Class, Yoga Stretch & Flow, Samba no Pe.
 

The Arts & Wellness Series is a hybrid class offering. You can opt to join us at the Center for the Arts to participate in-person. If you prefer to participate remotely, you can tune in to the livestream of the class. Links will be sent a few days prior to each class. When you enroll in the classes, you will need to select either in-person or virtual. Virtual classes are not transferable as a limited number of spaces are available in the in-person offerings.

Each class is offered twice. You may enroll in one or both classes. If you would like to enroll in both classes, be sure to add each date to your cart as you are checking out in the Box Office. The price listed is per class. 

The Arts & Wellness Series classes are for adults ages 18+.

GUIDELINES FOR ATTENDING CLASS

 
Please abide by the guidelines listed below when visiting the galleries and offices, or attending an art class or event hosted by the Arts Council of York County at the Center for the Arts and Gettys Art Center.

Before you arrive at the Center for the Arts or events produced by the Arts Council, please download, print, and sign the waiver, acknowledging that you understand the guidelines that have been set forth by the Arts Council, and that you will abide by them while in attendance. Return to the Arts Council's offices at the Center for the Arts or present it with your ticket to the box office at ACYC events.

PLEASE WEAR FACE MASKS

Staff, volunteers, and patrons of the Arts Council must wear face masks (facial coverings) while in the Center for the Arts and Gettys Art Center, or at an event produced by the Arts Council of York County. Please make sure the mask covers both your nose and mouth to help protect others.

LIMITED CAPACITY

The building capacity is limited to 15 people at all times.

MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING

Please maintain a distance of at least 6' between people who are not from the same household.

 

That’s about two adult arm-lengths or the height of an upright concert bass.

WASH YOUR HANDS

Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

LIMITED ACCESS

Access to the water fountain is limited to refilling water bottles.

KEEP IT COOL

Arts Council staff and volunteers will use a non-contact infrared thermometer to check the temperature of all visitors entering the Center for the Arts. If a visitor's temperature exceeds 100.3˚F, they will be asked to leave and come back when they are symptom free.

STAY HOME

Please stay home if you are showing signs of illness.

GYROTONIC® Mat Class With Sarah Council

This class will explore the GYROTONIC® Homework Series, an elegant progression that introduces the foundations of The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® method. This is a series that can be done at home using a chair and mat as a daily practice that offers opportunities to create space and decompression in the body while building strength and range of motion. This series is also particularly effective at down regulating the nervous system through utilizing breath and movement patterning to create a calm and resilient mind and body. During the classes participants will practice gentle spinal motions, learn tactile cues to increase awareness and Incorporate simple props (bands, light weights) to deepen their movement and understanding.

Adriana is offering an introduction to Samba no Pe, a style of samba that originates from Carnaval culture in the cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. This class includes an exploration of the African-Brazilian historical origins, fundamental body movement that supports stylistic expression, footwork drilling, and the breakdown of the samba no pe step. This class will include a warm-up with body isolations, a fun and basic sequence, technique and a cool down. 

Adriana Blanco is the Co-Director of the NC Brazilian Arts Project.

Yoga Stretch & Flow is a class that incorporates mindfulness, breathing, smooth transitions, and holding yoga postures. The first half of class will include a gentle flow to move and energize the body, and the last half of class will be slower, with grounding poses that help to release tension in the body.  Expect leg, hip, back, and shoulder openings with longer holds to gain stretch and increased mobility. Find true balance in this moving meditation. Modifications are offered to allow for all skill levels.
