Each of my paintings has a personal story behind it; a purpose for its creation. As a body of work, they’re snapshots with a common thread of what grabs my attention in a particular place and time, as I plow through each day, putting one foot in front of the other, trying to make sense of the world and my place in it.
Each subject I explore is a visual metaphor. A sunrise or a blossom becomes a symbol of hope for a new beginning. A tree trunk represents strength and endurance. A road, a path, or a river draws me in to contemplate life’s journey, with its twists, turns, intersections and mystery of where it might lead. While painting water, I've wondered, "What does the continual movement of ocean waves, each distinct but interconnected, tell us about civilization and the society we live in?"
