Call to Filmmakers | 2014 Underexposed Film Festival YC

Entering into its 3rd season, the Underexposed Film Festival YC focuses its attention on encouraging, nurturing, and supporting the creativity and vision of independent filmmakers, and providing a forum where their work can be viewed. The 150-seat Community Performance Center provides an intimate, unique setting where our diverse, eager audience has the opportunity to expose themselves to the works of a new and exciting generation of independent filmmakers.


Independent filmmakers across the world are invited to submit professionally presented short films, with a runtime of 45 minutes or less to participate in this juried competition, in one of the following categories:


Narrative | Fictional filmmaking that includes comedy, drama, action, thriller, adventure, fantasy, mystery, sci-fi, western, horror, film-noir, romance, and more.


Animation | Animated filmmaking - including but not limited to traditional, hand drawn animation, flip book animation, stop motion animation, computer animation, mechanical animation, puppetry, and special effects animation.


Experimental | Experimental films may be avant-garde, non-linear, and non-narrative. They may include the utilization of abstracting techniques, asynchronous sound, and are not limited by the constraints of traditional filmmaking. But, don’t let us define it for you…


Documentary | Non-fictional filmmaking that includes cultural, topical and historical subjects.


Female Director | Best Female Director Award. All female directed films in each category are eligible for this award. Only one award will be given.


Student Film | Best Student Film. All student films from each category are eligible for this award. Only one award will be given.

Entries submitted via may be eligible for a $5 discount.


Entry deadlines and entry fees for the 2014 Underexposed Film Festival YC:


April 18, 2014 - $25 per entry; WAB Discount - $20

Student Rate - $20 per entry; WAB Discount - $15

May 16, 2014 - $35 per entry; WAB Discount - $30

Student Rate - $30; WAB Discount - $25

June 20, 2014 - $40 per entry; WAB Discount - $35

Student Rate - $35; WAB Discount - $30

*July 18, 2014 - $50 per entry; WAB Discount - $45;

Student Rate - $45; WAB Discount - $40

*This deadline is only available for entries submitted through Awards totaling $1,950 will be presented at the Festival.


In addition to the Exposed (Best of Show/First Place), In the Limelight (Second Place), Out of the Shadows (Third Place), and Terry Roueche Audience Choice, the Woman to Watch, awarded to the best female director, and the Best Student Film. The Woman to Watch and the Best Student Film are sponsored by the Arts Community Service Program of the Woman's Club of Rock Hill, SC and an affiliate of GFWC.


The films selected for screening will be shown at the Underexposed Film Festival YC, to be held at the Community Performance Center, 249 East Main Street, Rock Hill, SC, on November 13-15, 2014.
